Here at Compass Children’s Homes, all colleagues have an extensive training and learning program. This starts from day one and continues throughout their time with us regardless of whether they stay in the same role or develop into new roles. All of our learning is embedded with our unique REACH therapeutic philosophy which ensures that child-centred approaches are always at the heart of how we learn and develop new skills.
Our induction for new colleagues provides skills and knowledge in a wide range of areas. This includes our Compass specific safeguarding training to look at all issues around safeguarding and providing safe care to some of the most vulnerable children in the UK. Alongside, we provide behaviour support training accredited by PRICE to aid all colleagues to understand and manage the complex behaviours children may present within in our care.
We take a blended approach to learning with a mix of classroom, video facilitation and online courses to aid any learning preference. All of our learning and training is reviewed regularly by our experienced children’s home trainers to ensure relevant, up-to-date information and strategies are available and discussed. This, we believe, enables colleagues to support the children in their care to the highest standards. This will include information on medication, risk assessment, effective key working and many more.
Additionally, all new colleagues will be enrolled on a level 3 diploma in residential childcare. This is delivered in-house to best meet the needs of the children we care for, but is fully accredited by CACHE and is accepted industry wide. This is a 24 month programme which not only allows for colleagues to gain vital and relevant qualifications but also develop their reflective and professional skills in the field of residential childcare.
Each Compass Children’s Home also has a bespoke therapeutic learning package for all colleagues. These are underwritten by our partners at New Ways Safeguarding and delivered by our in-house Programme Psychologist’s. This consists of up to 28 modules depending on the home’s specialism and includes topics such as attachment, childhood trauma, therapeutic play and sensory processing.
Training and learning at Compass forms a strong part of our culture and reinforces our REACH approach through ongoing education for both colleagues and children. We believe you will find these opportunities interesting, challenging and practical for supporting the children we care for.
