The Power of Positive Learning Experiences

We were so inspired recently when we learned all about how staff at Home N are supporting two children to embrace education outside of the classroom.

Throughout October, Home N have done some amazing things including: an entire month of “make and bake” which saw the children following recipes to make (from scratch) bread, cakes and milkshakes; a “from field to fork” day where they went and picked their own vegetables for a homemade soup and even churned their own butter for their homemade bread, with the aim of supporting their understanding of where food comes from and encouraging basic cooking and hygiene skills; library days with a special tutor, (focusing on Maths, English and computing) which proved to be hugely successful in the re-introduction to “school-like” learning; and finally, a trip to a country activity centre to visit farm animals like alpacas and George the goat, work out the water physics challenges and socialise with other children in the park.

As explained by staff: “… we were delighted with how well [they have] responded to the new tutor… they participated and were engaged for the whole day [at the library]. With the cooking, the best part was how [the children] worked so well together… it was a great educational opportunity!”
