Remembrance Events in Our Homes

On Remembrance Sunday, several of our young people attended Remembrance parades to acknowledge the importance of the day and pay their respects, and in various homes staff created learning opportunities for our children and young people.

T, L and I each attended Remembrance parades with their Cadets groups, whilst K went along to show their support for I. All three did exceptionally well at the events, with L being chosen to lay one of the poppy wreaths at the memorial. It was a special moment for L, and the team at Home Q were so proud of him. Everyone looked so smart in their uniforms and we’re all very proud of how respectful and mature they were throughout the event.

Meanwhile, staff at Home S made a display on Remembrance Day and WWI to support the facilitation of history discussions with their young people. As part of this discussion, they looked at different meals and foods that soldiers would eat and after researching, one young person was keen for them to try and bake a tomato pie. It was a really positive experience in the home, allowing questions and curiosity in a safe space whilst discussing sometimes challenging topics.
