Getting Prepared for Semi-Independence

Just before the new year, a young person from Home M successfully moved into semi-independent living, and they gave a lovely report of their time at the home in their Moving on Survey. When asked to describe their experience, S wrote:

“I came to [this house] as a very lost young person and I am now ready to leave as a young adult; the time [the home] has shaped me as a person and allowed me to grow and change emotionally and taught me many new skills and allowed me to experience many new things.”

When considering their favourite memory, S shared that it was successfully completing exams “with lots of support from staff and being able to share my great results with them” that stuck with them the most.

Upon S’s move into their new accommodation, the manager expressed their admiration for how well S had been prepared by staff at the Compass home, so much so that S would only require a minimal level of support: “[The staff team] has done an amazing job preparing you for independence. Hardly any young people who move in have their own certificates, identification, bank accounts, AQAs proving all the independence preparations…”

We’re so thankful to the team for supporting S so well, and we’re equally proud of S for taking everything in their stride and approaching this new chapter with such balance, determination and curiousness.
